Summer Kids  Makers  Lab

The Summer Makers Lab is perfect for kids who love to design, explore, experiment, and create! The workshops will have your kids stretching their creative muscles in projects that focus more on process and less on product. It’s a time for them to build their own community, share in the fun of 'cooking' in the mud kitchen, finding balance on the see-saw, digging for treasure in the sandbox, arts and crafts, and team work.

We’re changing things up a bit this year with 3 weeks of programming and a flexible schedule.

Class Descriptions: Join Wickham Works for artist-led workshops. Workshops will be outdoors (as much as weather allows) at Three Pines Nature Playground at the Warwick Valley Community Center, 11 Hamilton Avenue, Warwick, NY 10990. Along with art, your kids will play games, get messy in the mud kitchen and sandbox, and have plenty of free play. Suitable for ages 6 – 12.

Each day can be enjoyed as a stand-alone workshop, 10AM – 12PM, followed by an optional Stay & Play 12 – 2PM (bring your own packed lunch). We recommend signing up for the 4-day series with add-on free time as this will give your child the ability to go deeper into their solo projects as well as participate more in our larger collaborative projects. It’s also great to see the children connect over the week, form new skills and new friends. We offer a discount for signing up for all 4 days.

August 3 – 6: Paper Play. Join artist Beth Laule for four days of crafting with - PAPER! Day 1: Paper Mache, Day 2: Paper Weavings, Day 3: Paper sculptures, and Day 4: Paper Collages. There will be independent projects each day for you to design and take home, as well as large collaborative projects and some 'paper challenges' to work on in teams to test your creative skills!

August 10 – 13: Curiosity Lab. Join artist Nikki Romanello for 4 themed workshops designed around simple science concepts and experiments. Day 1. Geology: Geodes, volcanoes, and glowing minerals. Day 2. Physics: Lemon batteries, soap sculptures, and giant bubbles. Day 3. Chemistry: Cyanotype prints, borax crystals, and lava lamps. Day 4. Biology: Terrariums, outdoor microscopes, and suncatchers.

August 17 – 20: Meet the Artists. Join artist Lisa Cullen for a wild art adventure inspired by Louise Nevelson, Andy Goldsworthy, and Jackson Pollock. Kids will build, spray, print, spin, and splash their way through bold, messy, and nature-filled creations. Day 1: Using found objects children make a Louise Nevelson inspired assemblage. Day 2: Using natural objects, children design and build land art sculptures inspired by Andy Goldsworthy. Day 3: Printing - children will make sun-prints and relief printing with foam plates. Day 4: Action painting - children create abstract prints using marbles and miniature hockey sticks, inspired by Jackson Pollack.
